Letter from HBA San Diego President

Dear HBA San Diego (250+ members strong),

Cheers to 2021! As I enter the second year as president of HBA San Diego, I reflect on this organization's resiliency and positivity. Fortunately, the HBA has remained strong during this period and its members and leaders have organized many educational and networking events that have kept our community together.

We are engaging and working within a "new normal" environment or as I've recently seen, terms like hybrid models and digital transformation, come into play. As workers in the business of healthcare, many of us look for solutions and seek out information to help navigate this new normal. As we all have experienced, working remotely poses many challenges and requires us all to depend on trust, patience and personal accountability. And, through these hurdles, we also must prioritize to stay balanced and healthy, to not work 24/7 and to build a new routine for ourselves, our families and loved ones that are both mentally and physically supportive during these remarkable times.

It's critical that we honor the restrictions on gatherings imposed to stop the spread of COVID-19, as the events will continue to be virtual. At the same time, it's important that we remember and leverage the strength of the HBA community itself. HBA San Diego will continue to support and enable appropriate member connections using technology platforms and we will continue to drive quality content that delivers opportunities for growth and development. Over the next several weeks, we will be updating our regional and chapter programming as follows:

  • Engagement webinars will continue to be offered at no cost, open to members and nonmembers and managed at the local level
  • Networking webinars will be free and open to members-only
  • Educational webinars will be priced at $10/members and $15/guests to show the value of these high-quality programs at a fraction of the cost of an in-person event.

We started 2021 strong with several diverse offerings for engagement:

  • Rady Breakfast Series: Navigating Difficult Conversations: 6 Jan 2021
We heard a presentation from one of UC San Diego Rady School of Management's top executive trainers, Dr. Ernie Mendes, an organizational psychologist who specializes in the art and science of emotional intelligence.
  • Sip and Socialize: Entrepreneur Affinity Group: 19 Jan 2021
We learned more about a new offering with guest speakers, Carolina Amador and Helen McBride. The Entrepreneurial affinity group's mission is to nurture women with an entrepreneurial spirit (founders, business owners and intrapreneurs) through a supportive community to ensure women are equipped for success and to inspire the next generation of female entrepreneurs.
  • Mentor Info Meeting: 27 Jan 2021
We heard all about the benefits and impact of the mentor program and had questions answered about HBA membership and the signature Mentoring Circles. Our two new program leads, Adair Chesley and Jessica Taylor shared how mentoring could make an impact for your professional journey.

Other upcoming offerings:

  • Healthy Mind Healthy Body, 12-week program (launching in February)
  • Virtual Book Club in HBA San Diego-Learning with the Prose
  • Supper Clubs (HB8)
  • Meet the HBA/Coffee Chats

Lastly, please remember that our HBA community is here for you. Look for more information on upcoming programming soon in emails, through our corporate partners and through social channels. Let's all work together to recharge our enthusiasm and support for improving our community and supporting each other.
