It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
As the holiday season and the end of the year approach, I wanted to reach out to all of the amazing volunteers of HBA West Chester and say thank you for your time and commitment. We have had we had a fantastic year as HBA West Chester. Only the second year of our existence but the team were in full stride and we had event after event in both the West Chester and Wilmington area including ground-breaking events such as the Executive Women's breakfast (twice). Hopefully, you know about a lot of the events as our marketing team were unstoppable writing articles, interviews and awareness through the newsletter, website, community and social media. Couple that with the outreach from engagement to welcome new members, ensure that members were aware of events in their area and encourage/support volunteers and you can see why I am so proud of the team. We had chance during the year to recognize some of our volunteers for their commitment which I hope you have already seen but the team pulled one over on me when I went to the Regional retreat since when I announced our winners they had added my name for a Legacy award and it made me very emotional (as well as grateful). Anyway, the icing on this particular cake came at the Annual Conference when the chapter was recognized as the best chapter in all of the HBA national and international with the Chapter Excellence Award. I couldn't attend the AC but was so pleased that our incoming president Susan Snodgrass was able to represent the chapter and pick up the award - apparently, we got a standing ovation.
And that is where I need to end this little love note to you all. I have had a wonderful time as president with such a fantastic team and chances to interact with some of you during the two years in the role. I will not miss the commutes to events (I live in NJ) but will always be around to support the chapter as it has a piece of my heart. We started from nothing and did good Ma. But the chapter needs new energy and direction and Susan brings an amazing presence and a link to our STEM folks which will enrich the way in which it will develop moving forward. For those of you at Incyte you are lucky enough to already know her and I hope for everyone else you get the chance to meet her and know that the chapter is in good hands. We will formally hand over in January but Susan is already an active with the Board as we moved through a handover process, I will remain a volunteer in the HBA and have been offered a role as the chair, Global Council Committee - more on that later.
All my very best to you and yours at the festive season, hope to see you rise and make your mark on HBA West Chester by becoming actively involved in 2020.
Anita Burrell, outgoing HBA West Chester president
